The Stone County Jail and Detention Center is located at the Sheriff’s Office Complex at 1009 Sheriff’s Drive. The Jail is administered under the direction of Jail Administrator. The Jail Administrator directs the day to day operations of the facility and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of this facility.
This jail was built in 1994 and has been expanded to hold 40 inmates. These inmates are separated into four housing units, including one unit for female inmates. The jail holds both pre-trial inmates and post-conviction inmates awaiting transfer to the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
The jail has a full-time staff of 10 Dispatchers/Jailers. Each Jailer is required to complete and pass a minimum of forty hours of a State approved instruction course to become certified as Jailers. Each employee also receives certified training in ACIC/NCIC terminal operations. There are also several part time fill in jailers.
The jail has a chapel for worship services located within the secured areas of the jail, that is accessible to all the inmates who wish to attend.
The jail is a non-smoking facility, and medical treatment is provided to each and every inmate with medical needs. Act 309 inmates, who are state prisoners assigned to work in local facilities, are responsible for the maintenance of the buildings and grounds of the Sheriff’s Office and jail. They also do cooking and laundry at the facility.
