Craighead County Man Arrested, Accused of Inappropriately Touching Girl

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR - A Bay, Arkansas man was arrested on Monday afternoon on suspicion of touching an 11-year-old girl inappropriately, police say.

Fernando Rivera, 32, was booked into the Craighead County Detention Center around 1 p.m. on Monday and faces charges of sexual indecency with a child, possession of a controlled substance and nonpayment of fines, according to jail records.

On May 24, Stone County deputies started investigating Rivera and determined that he had inappropriately touched a young girl, according to a news release.

Rivera fled the Stone County area and went into Craighead County, possibly to avoid arrest, the release states.

The Second Judicial Drug Task Force joined the investigation once it was learned that Rivera fled, deputies said.

On Monday, members of the drug task force took Rivera into custody at 201 Judy St. in Jonesboro, according to the release. Authorities said they searched Rivera and found an undisclosed amount of narcotics.

Rivera was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center where he awaits his first hearing. Once his Craighead County charges are disposed of, he will be taken back to Stone County, the release states.
