Sheriff Lance Bonds states that on September 12, 2016, inmate Joshua Kirby was transported to the Stone County Medical Center in order to receive medical treatment.  While awaiting treatment, Kirby bolted from the hospital while in shackles and handcuffs.  A deputy gave chase however, was unable to apprehend Kirby before he reached a wooded area.

The Arkansas Department of Correction "K-9" Team was contacted and immediately responded to the scene.  After arriving on scene, the K-9 Team and a Stone County Deputy began tracking Kirby in a wooded area east behind the hospital, until turning north a short time later.

Less than two (2) hours later, the dog team and officers located Kirby in a heavily wooded area, naked and hiding underneath a log.

Kirby was taken into custody and returned to the Stone County Detention Center where he awaits formal charges for Escape Third, a Class "C" Felony.

Sheriff Bonds wishes to thank the Arkansas Department of Correction (North Central Unit) and the Mountain View Police Department for their assistance.
