Sheriff Lance Bonds states that on September 9, 2016, at approximately 12:33 PM, the Independence County Sheriff's Office notified the Stone County Sheriff's Office of a vehicle pursuit coming into Stone County.  Stone County was advised that the ICSO was in pursuit of a motorcycle with two riders.  It was also noted that the license number of the motorcycle was 947AB.  SCSO officers, to include Sheriff Lance Bonds responded to the area of Saint James to locate the fleeing motorcycle.

A short time later, Sheriff Bonds located the motorcycle, a black 2011 Honda CBR, at the intersection of Lindsey Hill Road and Church Road.  Sheriff Bonds recognized the operator of the motorcycle as Shane Mitchell.  Mitchell steered the motorcycle across the center of the roadway to avoid Sheriff Bonds.  In doing so, Mitchell drove left of center.

Sheriff Bonds activated his vehicle's emergency lighting and siren in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop on Mitchell.  Shane Mitchell refused to stop and began to flee from the Sheriff.  Sheriff Bonds pursued Mitchell across Church Road, Buckhorn Drive and Younger Access, all of which are county gravel roads.  Speeds on the county roads reached 70 MPH however, when the motorcycle reached State Hwy. 14, speeds reached approximately 100 MPH.  After several minutes, the motorcycle was located on Bob Davis Mountain Road, abandoned.  A search of the area was conducted, but Mitchell was not located.

It was learned that Mitchell was an absconder as well as having and active warrant from the Jonesboro Police Department and a suspended drivers license..

On September 15, 2016, Prosecuting Attorney Don McSpadden formally charged Shane Mitchell with:

A.C.A. 5-54-125 FLEEING - CLASS D FELONY

A.C.A. 27-51-216 SPEED LIMITS and TRAFFIC - CONTROL DEVICES ON COUNTY ROADS (SPEEDING-COUNTY ROADS)

A.C.A. 27-51-201 SPEED LIMITS (SPEEDING-STATE HIGHWAYS)

A.C.A. 27-16-303 DRIVING WHILE LICENSE CANCELLED, SUSPENDED, or REVOKED

A.C.A. 5-4-501 ENHANCEMENT: HABITUAL OFFENDER

Shane Mitchell currently has an active Felony warrant for the above listed charges.  His bond has been set at $10,000.00.  If seen, please contact your law enforcement agency.
